Our top 5 tips to refresh your home in 2022
~ Give your home a fresh start this year ~
Starting fresh for the New Year can be exciting and overwhelming all at the same time. You may be tempted to make massive changes and take on big resolutions, but we recommend a more gentile approach. Simple updates to your home is a great way to tackle bite-sized improvements that will make a big impact. Below are our top tips for giving your home a refresh in the New Year!
Declutter
Our number one trick in staging is “resting the eye” by simplifying surfaces and reducing clutter. For exposed shelving and counter spaces, try to pare down to only 1-2 items per surface. We love the tote method for reducing clutter as well. Anything that you haven’t used in the past 3 months either gets donated or goes into a tote until it’s needed again.
2. Deep clean
We give this advice to our clients when they are preparing to list, but it’s super applicable for everyday living as well. Check out some pre-listing cleaning tips to see all of the amazing ways you can deep clean your space. Dig into the spots that don’t get cleaned on a consistent basis (behind your stove and fridge for starters). Feeling like your home is truly clean is seriously such a boost of motivation.
3. Refresh small decor
Refreshing your home doesn’t have to be a huge cost investment. By simply swapping some pillows, updating shelf decor, and refreshing your wall art, you can create a completely new space! Grab a coffee, head to HomeGoods, and get to work.
4. Invest in ONE quality item
If you’re going to refresh one of your rooms, we recommend finding ONE high quality piece. Something you love that feels like a little bit of a splurge. Having something that feels important to you will help anchor the room. These quality pieces generally stand the test of time and should play into the overall goal of your home’s aesthetic. You don’t have to purchase all new items to have an amazing space.
5. Organize family photos
If your walls are packed with family photos or you have a bunch of small frames cluttering up surfaces, this tip is for you. Invest in a gallery wall or high quality photo albums. This makes your family photos an intentional part of your decor, while helping them to truly shine.
Happy New Year!!
